Lockdown Life Simulator

Animal Crossing released March 2020, one week after the COVID-19 global pandemic lockdown. The game is a life simulator where you can stand next to people, speak to them, and explore new areas… literally all the things the world couldn’t do. I approached the game as a fun ‘follow my life’ where I posted daily videos documenting the 6-10 hours I would play every day in the game.

This was a weird time dude. Like, I got interviewed on Bloomberg Business for The Stalk Market, the in-game fluctuating risk/reward of buying turnips and selling them for profit. Celebrities were posting online “Who’s got good turnip prices” and going to random gamers’ islands to sell their turnips.

After my mother’s passing in late April, I stepped away from the game for a bit and found it hard to come back. While I know there is DLC and more content added, I can’t go back. I just think of it as it was the game that we all needed, when we needed it.
